CHARLOTTE, NC (Aug. 5, 2025)The Girls Academy is proud to celebrate and support the 50th Anniversary of the WAGS Tournament (Washington Area Girls Soccer) a pioneering event and organization that has played a foundational role in advancing opportunities for women and girls in soccer.

For half a century, WAGS has been a trailblazer in creating spaces for girls to lead, compete, and grow. What began in October 1975 as a groundbreaking 25-team, all-female competition has evolved into one of the nation’s premier female-only soccer events. Today, the WAGS Tournament welcomes over 600 elite teams annually, attracting top talent from across the country.

The tournament stands at the heart of WAGS, a nonprofit organization whose mission extends far beyond the pitch. As the primary funding source for WAGS, the tournament fuels a range of impactful programs that support college scholarships, coaching education, referee development, international outreach, and player awards. These initiatives are purposefully designed to break down barriers, build pathways, and elevate the voices of girls and women in the game.

As a fellow single-gender platform, the Girls Academy is proud to stand alongside WAGS in supporting this legacy. Our shared mission is rooted in empowerment, inclusion, and opportunity. Collaborations like this help amplify our collective commitment to changing the game for the next generation.

This fall, WAGS hosts the 2025 WAGS Tournament, taking place October 11–13 in Northern Virginia. The festivities will include special events, community outreach initiatives, recognition campaigns, and fundraising efforts honoring the past while building momentum for the future.

With registration closing August 8, we encourage teams, alumni, and advocates of the female game to join the celebration and take part in one of the most meaningful events in youth soccer.
