As we wind down the year, we have some exciting news to share. We’re extremely proud to announce that four of our players have been invited to the first U-17 Youth National Team camp under new head coach, Natalia Astrain! The camp will take place from November 17-24 at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The four players are goalkeeper Kealey Titmuss (Nationals), defender Keegan Schmeiser (FC United Soccer Club), midfielder Amalia Villarreal (Michigan Jaguars), and forward Nicollette Kiorpes (NEFC). We spoke the coaches and directors of each of their clubs and here’s what they had to say:
On Kealey Titmuss (Nationals; Brand Blanc, Mich.)
“Kealey is the model of what we refer to as #TheNationalsWay both on and off the field. She is an incredible young woman, who truly loves the sport and commits her time and energy to not only improving herself but pushing those around her to be their best version. To be called into the U17 YNT camp as a 2006 is an incredible testament to her, her teammates, incredible goalkeeper coach Rajko Jovanovic, and the Nationals environment. Good luck to Kealey, and all of the U17 YNT as they prep for the upcoming World Cup!”
-David Robertson, Nationals Academy Director
On Keegan Schmeiser (FC United Soccer Club; Bolingbrook, Ill.)
“We are very excited and proud of Keegan to be invited to her second U.S. Youth National Team Camp. This invitation is a reflection of her dedication to mastering her craft and hunger to improve daily. At the moment, she’s playing the best I have ever seen her play and I’m glad she is being rewarded for it. I am excited for what this camp and future holds for Keegan.”
-Fabrice Gautrat, FC United Girls Academy Director
On Amalia Villarreal (Michigan Jaguars FC; Lansing, Mich.)
“We are thrilled to see Amalia called up to another U17 National Team Camp this week. She has an incredible work rate and constantly pushes herself and her teammates to raise their level of play. It has been amazing watching her develop throughout her years at Michigan Jaguars FC, and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.”
-Daniel Dalzochio, Michigan Jaguars Girls Academy Director
Nicollette Kiorpes (NEFC; Worcester, Mass.)
“We are very excited Nico has been called up to another USYNT camp. All her hard work and dedication is paying off and she fully deserves this opportunity. She’ll be training and playing with some of the best players in the country. In this environment she can continue to be pushed, challenged and grow as a player. Good luck Nico!”
-Nick Burke, NEFC Girls Director of Coaching
Best of luck to all the players in Chula Vista! For more about the camp, see U.S. Soccer’s official release.
